| Food prices rising across the world MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) -- If you're seeing your grocery bill go up, you're not alone. From subsistence farmers eating rice in Ecuador to gourmets feasting on escargot in France, consumers worldwide face rising food prices in what analysts call a perfect storm of conditions. Freak weather is a factor. But so are dramatic changes in the global economy, including higher oil prices, lower food reserves and growing consumer demand in China and India. The world's poorest nations still harbor the greatest hunger risk. Clashes over bread in Egypt killed at least two people last week, and similar food riots broke out in Burkina Faso and Cameroon this month. | Those who want to spend the resources of the poor countries in buying arms should read this article. The food scarcity will not be resolved if China and India do not stop their population growth.
The next 10 years could see more riots for food in poor countries like haiti and Bukina Farso. This shortage could be resolved if the governments of these countries put more resources in agriculture. This is what people, like Dr Jean ,have been saying all along. But the deafs and blinds who are governing our country do not pay any attention to the people who can see and comprehend the ramifications of this crisis.Isn't it a shame that a mother has to withdraw her child from school because she is no longer able to feed him or her?
Reading a text like this about 5 years ago I had the feeling that hunger will cause a lot of sufferings in the third world countries. If I could predict it why then those people who are in charge of these countries could not take the necessary measures to prevent this crisis? These are examples of the mediocrity of the people some of us are calling :"les plus capables"My as.. |
