San Francisco de Macoris .- The Regional Development Council
(CRD) referred to the Presidents Rene Preval of Haiti and Leonel
Fernandez Reyna of the Dominican Republic to host the binational rail
project from the Northeast of the Dominican Republic to Haitian
territory, to promote the development of both countries.
The CRD, comprised of businessmen from the provinces Duarte, Mirabal
Sisters, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, made
the proposal through its directors Yapor Manuel Nunez, Frank Sanchez
Mena, Jaime Antonio Mariz, Abraham Abukarma Ramon Monsignor Jesus Ureña
Torres and María de Jesús Moya.
The agency explained to Presidents Fernandez and Preval, that a
binational rail would mobilize the commercial and cultural exchange
between Haitians and Dominicans, and would boost the two countries as
they are inserted in the new global economic patterns of production and
markets.
According to the design developed by the RDC, the railway from the
Dominican Republic to Haiti, in addition to being a safe and efficient
land carrier, will contribute to human progress, the growth of trade
relations and overall development of both countries.
The CRD states that it carried specialized studies that indicate the
bi-national railway includes joining the south and east of the Dominican
Republic, and include the Great Santo Domingo, which in turn will be
the main route which will travel to the Northeast, North Central and
Northwest up to the Republic of Haiti.
"The southern and eastern regions of the country, the railway system
would link upgrading the existing railway lines of the mills located in
these areas, which reach the vicinity of the town of Civicos, the
province of Sanchez Ramirez, also provided by the South a line that
connects to Port au Prince, capital of Haiti, and Dominican docks of San
Souci, Haina, and Punta Caucedo.
Indicates that the cities of Santiago, La Vega, Bonao, Puerto Plata, and
the hills of Ortega and La Peguera (Falconbridge, Rosario Dominicana
and other mining areas) would be connected to the international railway
line through the branches that would be connected to the main road.
While the towns of Nagua, Castillo, Pimentel, Salcedo and Moca, as well
as the provinces of Sanchez Ramirez, Valverde Mao, Montecristi, Santiago
Rodriguez and Dajabón, would connect to the railway through its main
street, as follows the study and pre design submitted by CRD.
The organization says its study shows that the Northeast, North Central
and Northwest Dominican regions, composed of 14 provinces representing
more than 35% of the population of the Dominican Republic, have
characteristics and potential to be exploited.
"These provinces should be developed in response to a development
strategy that allows the use and optimization of its substantial
agricultural resources, agribusiness, tourism and natural, to produce in
them a real economic and human development, he says.
