Haiti: Obama does not like black people by Jafrikayiti, December 31, 2010

"We now live in a world where powerful countries - all of them so-called democracies - manipulate multilateral bodies to the great disadvantage and suffering of the poorer developing nations". Rolihlahla (Nelson) Mandela

As the year 2010 closes the United Nations is facing a serious crisis of credibility. Whether in Ivory Coast, in the Congo or in Haiti, U.N. troops sent to “keep the peace” are repeatedly accused of perpetrating grave human rights violations, including mass murders. This note shall focus on the track record of the Mission des nations unies pour la stabilisation d’Haiti (MINUSTHA), which has been in operation in this Caribbean island nation for the past six years. We shall also see, at the end of this brief text, what all this has to do with Barack Obama.

In a recent interview, Brazilian diplomat Ricardo Seitenfus accused the U.N. of “transforming the Haitians into prisoners on their own island”. Within a matter of hours, Seitenfus was called back to Brazil and summarily fired from his post as Special Representative of the Organization of American States in Haiti.

In recent days, former Cuban President Fidel Castro spoke publicly in support of Seitenfus. However, is there tangible evidence in support of Seitenfus’ grave assertions? American investigative journalist Kevin Pina has just released a powerful documentary that should help answer this specific question without ambiguity.

Pina’s We Must Kill the Bandits is 66-minutes long. Its “in your face” style is both provocative and irresistible. Packed with video evidence, "Bandits" leads the viewer to a disturbing yet inescapable conclusion: As per Patrice Lumumba’s 1960 Congo, in 2010 Haiti, the United Nations is mobilized as a deadly tool of repression in the hands of powerful countries that are bent on robbing Haitians of their right to self-governance and democratic rule.

Bandits is available free over the Internet at URL: bit.ly eWFDLd Please be warned! This well-researched documentary is graphic and highly disturbing. The film should not be viewed in the company of small children.

From the onset, Pina makes the point that the U.N.-attributed murders documented in his film continue to occur up to the current year.

Among several powerful footages in Bandits, I propose these segments, listed in chronological order, which are especially deserving of attention:

Pina provides historical context for the term “bandits”. He uses archive footages of U.S. invasions of Haiti in 1915 and 2004 (see minutes 5:43 to 8:07)

Pina interviews U.S. author Randall Robinson who shares specific details surrounding the ouster of President Aristide by U.S. military personnel and diplomats, the evening of the February 29, 2004 coup d’état (8:08)

The author painstakingly documents how a campaign of military repression and psychological warfare intensified immediately following Aristide’s ouster. He illustrates this with a March 2004 incident whereby U.S. troops gunned down Spanish reporter Ricardo Ortega and maneuvered to have the latter’s killing blamed on Aristide supporters (10:09- 12:50).

With a one-of-a-kind video interview of former Haitian Prime Minister Yvon Neptune, the filmmaker presents undisputable proof that Neptune knew that Haitian President Aristide was taken out of Haiti against his will and that the post-coup puppet president (Boniface Alexandre) was illegally installed by foreign diplomats (13:24-15:00).

Convincingly, Pina describes the process by which former military tough guy and CIA-operative Herard Abraham was remobilized to orchestrate, in conjunction with Canadian special forces, a resurrection of Haiti’s hated Forces armées d’Haiti (FadH) and its paramilitary arm FRAPH, by recycling their membership within the Haitian National Police. (15:50 – 17:55)

The camera follows the campaign to silence popular folk artist and political activist Annette (Sò Anne) Auguste (20:15 - 22:08)

U.N. massacres which happened between September 30 and December 2004 as well as the arrest of human rights activist Father Gérard Jean-Juste are presented with graphic details (26:10 - 36:00).

The second half of the documentary exposes how the U.N. campaign of repression continued unabated throughout 2005 and 2006. A number of specific confrontations are highlighted: First, between pro-democracy demonstrators and Brazilian U.N. General Heleno (37:00 - 46:00); Then, between masked Haitian policemen operating with full U.N. support and the journalists, including producer Kevin Pina, whom they try to intimidate into silence - yet another “must watch” footage (48:50 – 50:53). It is noteworthy that Heleno’s successor, U.N. Commander Urano Teixeira Da Matta Bacellar, met a tragic end under yet to be elucidated conditions at Hotel Montana, on January 7, 2006

(Please see: Bacellar )

Particularly disturbing and graphic are the final scenes of the documentary where the producers describe U.N. massacres in Cité Soleil which occurred May 31, 2005 (50:54 – 54:25), July 6, 2005 (56:11 – 1:00:43) and December 22, 2006. In the latter piece, a blind man nursing several shot wounds grabs a guitar and offers a song to the foreigners (“blan”- “whites”) whom he accuses to have shot him and killed his two children. "blan MINUSTAH sa m genyen ak ou?” – (What have I done to you MINUSTHA foreigners?).

As we ponder the blind man’s question, I have not forgotten my promise to address your own. Indeed, what does all of this have to do with Barack Obama? At the risk of confusing you even further, let me answer: “nothing whatsoever!”. In these days of Hollywood-style reporting, it is apparently impossible to attract interest in the plight of millions of human beings dying at the end of U.N. troops. That the same “peacekeeping forces” supposedly mobilized to bring peace to an impoverished people have instead caused a deadly epidemic of cholera in their midst isn’t deserving of the attention of mainstream media. Even less so are the valiant efforts being deployed by Haitians to resist the incredible set of natural and man-made disasters visited upon them in 2010. They will likely never make the screens of CNN, BBC or Radio-Canada. Mindful of this sad fact, a clever producer recently titled his documentary A Marshall Plan for Haiti . Yet, rather than daydreaming about sudden goodwill towards Haiti by its historical tormentors, this film sheds light on the existence of true transformative Haitian leadership in action. Perhaps, Pina should also change the title of his film to “Please Make Haiti a U.N. Protectorate Governed by Bill (Tarzan) Clinton”.

I apologize for the misleading title of this article. Regrettably, black fratricide remains an immensely attractive theme in our Hollywoodized culture. So, begging your forgiveness, I invite you to partake in Haiti’s traditional Independence Day (January 1) “soup joumou” (Pumpkin soup). And, as we do, let us remember and ponder the words of His Majesty Jean-Jacques Dessalines, liberator and founder of the first Republic of the Americas to have abolished racial slavery and truly embraced universal human freedom: “and those whose fathers are in Africa, will they have nothing?”.

This title is just plain ludicrous and doesn't deserve to be published on this forum. Why the so called poor countries don't withdraw their diplomats from the United nations? That is what Nelson Mandella should have done when he was president of South Africa. Why did he keep his country in an organisation that is working to maintain the sufferings of the poors?Who asked the United Nations to send a military contingent in haiti?Who asked the U.S. military to take control of the airport after the earthquake?

Those who blame the United States for its intervention in haiti in 1915 and in 2000 would blame the americans had a genocide occured like in Rwanda.look at what is happening in the republic of Congo, in Sudan .How many people wish that South africa or Nigeria could intervene in these two countries to save the innocent victims of the civil wars.Clinton was God when he restored Aristide back to the presidency with the marines now he is Lucifer.Does Bill Clinton really need haiti?Come on people be real.ah ah ah

Roseau,

I would be the first to agree with you that the title is ludicrous and i assume full responsibility for using this strategy.

One of the points I am making is precisely that disturbing facts such as:

* United Nations troops killing scores of human beings they are supposed to be protecting

* A mission of the United Nations causing a deadly cholera epidemic and doing next to nothing to help eradicate the disease and pay reparations to the victims it caused...

are unfortunately not deserving proper coverage in the mainstream media.

The documentary produced by Kevin Pina does not propose opinions but hard facts supported by video evidence. This is information that is widely available to all.

Just as Kanye West's comments about President Bush attracted more attention than the grave crimes of neglect President G.W. Bush has committed against the people of New-Orleans; I am certain, many will feelmore comfortable discussing the title of my text than focussing of the hard facts presented in the body of the article.

This is also what explains the Electionaval show towhich the world has been subjected in Haiti. Instead of political leaders presenting plans to redress to situation in Haiti, we are being entertained.

In closing let me say Roseau that if most Haitians could show for Haiti 10% of the concern you display for any real or perceived criticism of the United States of America, that would be great!

A pye nou ye!

ON PEUT LA VOIR AVEC LA MENTALITE DU MAITRE ET DU PREDATEUR ,OU CELLE DE LA SERVILITE DE CEUX QUI AVOUENT LEUR IMPUISSANCE A TRAVERS LE MANMAN IMOUCHE DES IMPUISSANTS .Le choix est notre .(DEZA SIGMUND Smile )

JAF

I have seen the documentary you've mentioned a couple months back. I have to say two things. First, It is indeed true that there was a massive crime against the Haitian people. You are absolutely right on the spot when talking about the mass murder, women rape, conducted by the UN soldiers. I have to point out that the Brazilian soldiers are mainly responsible for those heinous crimes.

The UN has chosen a special Brazilian squad to lead these operations on cite soleil. These guys are bloody killers… You are right to remind the historical meaning of the word bandits…Believe me, I was very saddened by those killings where innocent people have been bloodily killed in a deaf silence of the media.

It stands to my reason that killing thousands of people was a crime against humanity. I couldn’t agree more when you’re tried to bring to the public knowledge this horrific massacre.

Second, I have to question the legitimacy of this operation lead by Preval.. As far I can remember, when Aristide was ousted out of power, there was a helter skelter in Haiti. A lot of kidnappings, killings were taking place. My mother wanted to go to Haiti, but could not go. The chimeres were all over the place playing their music. So, what the government could have done but vesting the UN to bring about public order..

Whilst the former president Aristide decided to get rid of the army, there was no choice but using a foreign army to come down on the drug dealers. It was Aristide's mistake to send the Forces armees d’Haiti home. Notwithstanding, YOU ARE RIGHT, THE ARMY WAS FROM NAN-NI-NAN -NAN a source of a great injustice FOR THE HAITIAN PEOPLE..

Back in those days, Haiti was in a great turmoil. The Brazilian squad has committed major crimes and grieves in the country. Some people would unfortunately call it collateral damage…. I call it crime against humanity.

We could bicker about these killings, but we also need to confront the facts. When you looking back, I am convinced that some action had to be taken.

I am absolutely against any foreign intervention… But, when public order is at stake, I will use any mean necessary to crack down on kidnappers.

Roseau,

"I would be the first to agree with you that the title is ludicrous and i assume full responsibility for using this strategy."Jaf

As long as you agree that the title is ludicrous;that is all I need to know for I don't think it was necessary to use such a statement to incite people to read your message.

As far as what President Mandella said about the international organisations i would like you to explain to me why all the eastern europeans nations which were under the iron curtain want to join NATO ,the european common market and the United nations? Why China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela , Cuba are still members of these organisations. Why Cuba still wants to reintegrate the Organisation of American States?

It is obvious you and I dont have the same opinion about the United States;you have your reasons to hate the United States and I have mine to love it.However, despite our differences we must recognize it is not by criticising the United states that we will solve our problems.By saying that President Obama doesn't like black people you discredit yourself because everybody knows it is a lie.

I am not a disciple of Aristide who used to call the United states the wicked eagle, but who came to the United States instead of staying in venezezuela to recuperate his presidency. He married an american citizen; his daughters are american citizens and before his so called kidnaping he was in conversation with tha american ambassador asking him "vini vit "while preparing his luggages to leave the country.I am tired of drinking this anti american cool-aid that the so called left caviar (lol) has been distributing to the masses since the 50's.I try to comprehend the real reasons of the third world countries under developpement whih are ignorance, corruption, lack of knowledge to convert their material ressources in usable products that they can use and export.I understand that a country that imports more than it exports will never have enough capital to invest in R&D and education which are the primary sources of developpement.

I refuse to believe it is the american government which prevent us to build schools to educate our youth,;I refuse to believe it is the american government which prevents us to build a potable water distribution system for the 80% of haitians who are drinking dirty water;I refuse to believe it is the american government which prevents us to build hospitals and health centers throughout the country to give health care to the people and control the birth rate .I refuse to believe it is the american government which prevents us to invest in land reform so we can produce enough food to feed our people. No I will never give the american government the reponsibility of our failures ,corruption, ignorance, and neglect toward our poors. We ,haitians are responsible of our failures. And as long as we keep blaming others for our failed state we will repeat the same mistakes. This occupation of the country was preventable if we really love it as we pretend to . The international community could not allow a civil war to take place in haiti where millions of people could die.You would be the first person to blame the United States if the killings that happened in Rwanda occured in haiti in 2004.

You will never understand me because you said i don't speak french, english and creole(lol);I like you too because despite your arrogance and insolence you educate the fellows in this forum by using certain words which are not common to all of us. .You just send me to the the dictionary to understand very well the meaning of the word esssentialist.Although I understood the root is essential I didn't know it was a philosophical doctrine that gives more importance to what is essential to existence.I thank you for that.

But what do you mean :"He is living in a no man's land?"You must be kidding me.My feet are well implanted on this earth.I am a pragmatist not a dogmatist.I believe in what that functions.Nobody can brainwash me with stupid lies and propaganda.I talked to the cubans in florida to know what is going on in Cuba, I used to talk to the Russians when I was living in new York to know why they left the Sioviet Union and seek refuge in the United States.I read the Goulag Archipelagos.I used to talk to a Romanian who told me his country is a hell.I compare North Corea and South Corea; West germany and East germany. I conclude there is no such thing as a perfect economic system;ech country should adopt a system that is appropriate for the well being of the greater number of people.I recognize that haiti should have an economic system based on its culture, history and geographical position. It is not necessray for us to adhere to any ism that is not compatible with our culture and ethnicity.Comprende amigo.

Roseau,

no one hates the U.S.A. on this forum and no one ever suggested the U.S. is responsible for everything that went wrong in Haiti. Facts are facts and we must deal with them. It is a fact that the CIA took an active part in both the 1991 and 2004 coup d'état. That is what the U.S. bears responsibility for. But, this is not the object of the present thread. I explain that in the very article.

What we need to deal with is the nature of the United Nations and the dilemma faced by weak states that will sooner or later find themselves in Haiti's situation whereby an international institution officially designed to help them will be used to ruin them.

Nelson Mandela was a great leader as head of the ANC and President of South-Africa. However, that does not mean all his decisions were right. I quote his statement because i find it to be truthful. Mandela actually made this statement after he had completed his presidential term and retired from politics.

As for Barack Obama, i don,t think you like the man more than I. Obviously there are decision he has made and will make with which I will disagree, but I admire the man's skills, intelligence and vision. So, my title could have easily been "Jafrikayiti does not like Black people". The point is, such a sentence is not meant to be taken at first level as I have already explained. Once, again, this is the value of the freedom of speech so many have died to secure in our world. Those who criticize the U.S. are not anti-American. You can not be more patriotic or American than Randall Robison. If you read his book "The Debt" who will see in it the passion and the love the man has for his nation. But, because he knows what America can and ought to be, he will not accept the statu quo.

Remeber what happened to Michelle Obama when she stated that in 2008 she finally found good reason to be proud of her country. Some American Talibans suggest that was unpatriotic of her. Somehow these folks consider it to be the duty of Black Americans to love America unconditionally. It should not matter that Katrina exposed the preference given to private property owned by white people over the lives of black human beings - still in our era. I don't know about you but i consider Michelle Obama to be a patriot who loves her powerful country and wants to make of it a giant for good.

Kenbe fèm!

Jaf

You must admit your mistake ;it was not necessary to write :"Obama hates black americans" to make your point .I am not condoning certain acts commited by the CIA which by the way is an organisation created to defend the insterests of the United States by all means necessary. The CIA is not unique in the world.I am sure the Russian ,the french , the Germans, the italians have also their intelligence agencies which have their economic hit men also.As i said before I am not a dreamer I try to deal with reality.

I remember what Guy Pillipe said about the coup d'etat :"We gave too much importance to the american embassy in Port-au-prince."The CIA doesn't represent the United states .the same way the FADh did not represent the haitian people. The same way the Gestapo didn't represent the totality of the German people.I find it ludicorus to complain about the relationship between the United states and haiti ,and Mr Robinson didn't ask President Aristide to call his ambassador to Washington and to declare the american ambassador persona non grata after the first coup d'etat . If I tolerate my enemy in my house i am an imbecile. What i am asking you to do is to stop complaining ;do something about it, take your guns and go to haiti to promote a socialist revolution like Castro did.I am tired of this song :Ameriken fè sesi ameriken fè sela,If mr mandella thinks that these institutions are the enemies of the african couintries then he should ask them to withdraw their representatives from these organisations.
