Haiti - Politic : «Polite» answer of Mirlande Manigat to the President Michel Martelly
01/10/2011 13:43:31

Following the announcement Thursday, of the intention of President Michel Martelly to meet with former Presidents of Haiti, including Leslie Manigat, as part of a dialogue and of national reconciliation, Mirlande Manigat, wife of the former Head of State, trivializes the approach of the President Martelly and is ready to receive him if the latter asks him.

"...I learned it this morning, we have not yet received an invitation, we wait... We never had a problem to talk with him [President Martelly] and anyway, it is a tradition that there is in Haitian political life, that the new Heads of States meet with former Head of State who are living in the country. This is perhaps in this perspective, in this idea that he decided to do it...

It's in my house that he will come. Personally, whatever the person who comes to my house, I know receive [...] I have no opinion [on the call for reconciliation], this call for reconciliation means that there are people who are angry, he knows the situation, he knows in what condition he came to power, the call for reconciliation... yes... it's a good formula. The problem it is the reconciliation with whom, why and for what purpose ? [...]

I am ready to receive anyone in my house, I am a person who is polite and well educated, if a person announces its visit and that it comes in my house, it's normal that I receive it..."
